The Royal Lochnagar Distillery was founded in 1826, but the present distillery was built in 1845 with further renovations to the building in 1906. The distillery is located on the south side of the River Dee on the B976. This can be reached via Crathie on the A93, and is only 600 yards or so from Balmoral Castle. This makes it an ideal day out, visiting the Castle then the distillery.

The Royal Lochnagar Distillery has an excellent visitor centre with a full tour round the distillery and a chance to taste the malt itself.
